I usually write about businesses or products in my Friday Favorites. But, this week I’m straying from the norm. Today, it’s about friends. Without friends, where would you be? Well, I know that who and where I am today is partially because of my friends.

It Takes a Village
I’m extremely lucky to have friends in a variety of circles…neighbors, co-workers, college, childhood etc. Each and every one of them has helped me in some way. I am an only child and my parents live in Florida. My husband owns a business and works full-time. I now have a business and three young children. Because of that, I’ve come to rely on my friends for everything. When they say it takes a village, they are right!

I truly believe that I would not be successful or sane, if it was not for my friends.  I am able to go to early morning client meetings… because of my neighbors. I am able to brainstorm and grow my business…because of colleagues. I am able to tell my deepest darkest secrets, laugh or cry my eyes out… because of my best friend. She will never judge me. Never.

How Things Change
Throughout the stages of life you rely on your friends for different things. Gone are the days of going out on the town in our 20’s. Now it’s about helping each other through a Cancer diagnosis, a loss of a parent, sick kids and schedule conflicts. True friends will drop everything to help you. They will support you through good times and bad. They will be there to kick you butt, inspire you, remind you that you’re beautiful and motivate you to reach for the stars.

Last night, as I sat at one of my best friends father’s wake, all that I could think to myself is that I needed to do something for her. I was just sitting there feeling helpless.  Then I realized that sitting by her side is exactly what I should be doing. I was simply there for her. If she needed to take a walk, I’d go with her. If she needed to cry, she had my shoulder. If she needed to yell, I’d listen.  That’s just what friends do. I know that she would do the same for me.

As we grow older, I believe that we need our friends more than ever. I am truly blessed to have such an amazing support system and friends in my life. So, as we start the weekend, think about your friends. Give them a hug, tell them that they’re beautiful and thank them for being there for you.

Cheers to all of my friends who inspire me, motivate me and help me grow.
